SAILING PROGRAM INTRODUCTION

Junior Sail Program

To kickstart youth sailing journey, it is best to learn Dinghy Sailing which is a simple and inexpensive way to get started in this sport.

Age: 8 – 12 years old 

A simple and fun introduction to sailing in a dinghy focusing on the basic skills of steering, balance and simple sail trimming.
Two children may sail together in each dinghy if appropriate.

  • Minimum Course Duration:
    14 hours; recommended 2 full days
  • Entry Requirement:
    N/A

On completion of the course, successful sailors will be able to sail a dinghy singlehanded in light winds on all points of sail.

  • Minimum Course Duration:
    14 hours; recommended 2 full days or 5 half days
  • Entry Requirement:
    Completed Junior Sail Level 1

On completion of the course, successful candidates will be able to launch and recover a dinghy safely without assistance and sail single-handed in light to medium winds round a basic triangle course.

  • Minimum Course Duration:
    14 hours; recommended 2 full days or 5 half days
  • Entry Requirement:
    Completed Junior Sail Level 2

On completion of the course, successful sailors will be able to race a dinghy round a simple course in medium winds and have a basic understanding of starting, race techniques and racing rules.

  • Entry Requirement:
    Completed Junior Sail Level 3

Adult Sail Program

This program allows complete sailing beginners to eventually become skilled at dinghy racing.

Age: 13 years old or up

The aim of this course is to provide a brief experience of dinghy sailing for someone who has never sailed before. By the end of the course, participants will have had a short introduction to the sport of dinghy sailing, including basic boat handling techniques and essential background knowledge.

    14 hours; recommended 2 full days
  • Entry Requirement:
    N/A

By the end of the course the successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing a dinghy without an Instructor on board in light / medium winds.

  • Minimum Course Duration:
    28 hours; recommended 4 full days
  • Entry Requirement:
    Completed Adult Sail Level 1
    or
    Completed Junior Sail Level 3

By the end of the course, the successful sailor will have a competent, safe, practical approach to dinghy sailing and be capable of sailing and making seamanlike decisions in moderate conditions. To successfully demonstrate the required skills, it is required that at least part of the course will be taught in double-handed dinghies.

  • Minimum Course Duration:
    35 hours; recommended 5 full days
  • Entry Requirement:
    Completed Adult Sail Level 2 and logged 40 sailing hours

Sailing Practice Day

You have learned to sail, but would like to practice and perhaps explore further the fun of sailing – Sailing Practice Day will be for you to participate. 

You will be under the supervision of a certified sailing instructor while you sail and roam freely with other students, working on your own skills. The instructor will also offer you tips and advice to improve, but there will be no fixed syllabus.

    Completed Adult Sail Level 2
